Carnatic Music
Carnatic music is a rich and complex classical tradition from South India, known for its intricate melodic and rhythmic structures. At its heart lies the raga, a melodic framework that sets the mood of a piece, and the tala, which governs rhythm. Compositions like varnams and kritis form the core of the repertoire, with the latter typically structured into pallavi, anupallavi, and charanam sections. Legendary composers such as Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Syama Sastri have left behind timeless masterpieces that continue to inspire musicians today. Performances often involve improvisation through alapana, niraval, and kalpanaswaras, showcasing the artist’s creativity and command over the raga. Accompanied by instruments like the violin, mridangam, and tambura, the vocalist takes center stage, weaving intricate phrases that evoke emotions ranging from devotion to joy.
At Mi Carnatic School of Music, we offer a structured learning journey, starting from the foundational sarali swaras and progressing to mastering complex kritis. Our lessons cover a wide range of concepts and compositions, including Sarali Swarams, Janta Swarams, Upperstayi Swarams, Alankarams, Geetams, Swarajatis, Varnams, and Kritis. Each stage is carefully designed to build a strong foundation in both melody and rhythm, nurturing students' skills and helping them appreciate the depth and beauty of this classical art form.
